Urge Urinary Incontinence Treatments with Dr. Giusto
Dr. Laura Giusto dives into treatment options for patients with Urge Urinary Incontinence (UUI) - from behavioral management to Revi, a new implant for bladder control.
When discussing treatment options for urge urinary incontinence, many patients come into the office already having tried to control the symptoms. They have limited fluid intake, avoided bladder irritants, and reduced their caffeine intake. In this video, Dr. Giusto shares that when patients finally get in the office to see her, they have usually already tried everything in their control and are looking for a treatment option that meets their goals and provides symptom relief.
For some patients, Dr. Giusto says medication is their treatment of choice. For others, there are minimally invasive treatment options including neuromodulation. Neuromodulation stimulates a nerve to help rehabilitate the muscle controlling bladder function. Historically, it was found that performing acupuncture in the ankle would help bladder symptoms get better. Physiotherapists started combining acupuncture with electrical stimulation and found that bladder symptoms got even more improvement. This next level therapy, Revi, is a better designed therapy because patients do not need to go into the office to get acupuncture, and instead can get their therapy at home.
